Doi Pui is probably the easiest and most convenient place to camp if you are staying in Chiang Mai. Doi Pui is locate just to the west of the city past Doi Sutpet so there is plenty to do on the way there. Stop off at Chiang Mai Zoo at the base of Doi Sutept or many of the waterfalls on the way up there.
The first major attraction in Wat Doi Sutept, Chiang Mai's most important temple. After that there is the the kings palace and several Hmong villages. But keep going and you will reach the Doi Pui camping ground. At the camping ground you can rent large comfortable tents for around 270 baht a night , if 2 people are using it or 210 if you will stay by yourself. If you have your own tent it's about 150 baht for the night. There's a restaurant that offers fried rice.
